Politics are getting ‘Girl Power’ at Nagel Middle School – WCPO

ANDERSON TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Middle school girls from around the Tri-State who are interested in politics are invited to an event over the weekend at Nagel Middle School called ” Girl Power Politics .”

Anna MacLennan, an Anderson High School junior and member of the Hamilton County Commission of Women and Girls, launched the program.

She said the program is a non-partisan event and aims to educate more middle school girls on politics and how they can get involved on a local and national level.

Girls don’t have to have a desire to be in political office to attend though. MacLennan said any girl with an interest in learning how to be more politically aware and engaged in their community is welcome.

“What I’m really hoping girls walk away immediately from this event with is a sense of what it means to be politically engaged,” MacLennan said. “Just a sense of how to harness all the political power they really have, because a lot of people don’t realize what they have.”

Local women in political positions from both sides of the aisle, including Hamilton County Commissioner Denise Driehaus, City Councilwoman Amy Murray and State Representative Catherine Ingram, are scheduled to lead sessions at the event.

The event starts at 9 a.m. and goes until 2:30 p.m. Saturday. If you know any girls in grades 6-8 who want to participate, they can register for the free event here .
